Blue Ridge Scenic Railway GA
When you hear the sound of the train whistle it's time to come aboard for a ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. Your entire family will enjoy the ride on the Georgia Northeastern. The train route consists of a 26-mile round trip through historic Murphy Junction and along the beautiful Toccoa River.
This railroad was built over 100 years ago and is the only mainline railroad excursion service based in Georgia. Each trip begins at the depot in Blue Ridge, Georgia and includes a stop in McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee. This stop permits passengers to disembark and have a two-hour layover, allowing time to have lunch, do some shopping, or just explore the two cities.
Each round trip takes approximately 4 hours. Trains generally run Fridays to Mondays, March to December, with some exceptions. Visit the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway ticket office and station for the most up-to-date schedule.
The last passenger train to operate over this line was a one-time special trip that ran in the 1960s. The route was originally built as the narrow-gauge Marietta & North Georgia Railroad. Construction began in Marietta in 1877 and reached Blue Ridge in 1886.
